About Us / Our Story

Born from a Love for the Mountains

A retreat rooted in the Western Ghats, built on the belief that true luxury is not found in marble and chandeliers — but in mist, birdsong, and the quiet hum of a forest at dawn.

The Beginning

How Parvata Came to Be

Parvata Retreat was born from a simple, stubborn idea, that the hills of Inchathotty deserved to be experienced, not just passed through. Tucked away at the border of Ernakulam and Idukki, this stretch of the Western Ghats had long been one of Kerala’s best-kept secrets: untouched, unhurried, and quietly magnificent.

The founders of Parvata, a family with deep roots in this land, watched travellers drive past on their way to more famous destinations, never knowing what lay just beyond the turn. They believed that the right kind of hospitality could change that. Not loud or flashy, but warm, honest, and deeply connected to the place itself.

So they built Parvata Retreat the way they would want to find it, a place that feels like home, set inside a landscape that feels like a dream. Every room was designed to frame a view. Every path was laid to lead somewhere worth walking to. Every detail was chosen to let the forest speak, not to compete with it.

“We didn’t want to build a hotel in a forest. We wanted to build a home that the forest could be proud of.”

What We Stand For

Our Values, Simply Put

01

Nature First

Every decision at Parvata — from construction to daily operations, begins with the same question: does this respect the forest? We believe the land we sit on is our most important guest, and we treat it accordingly.

02

Genuine Warmth

Hospitality here is not scripted or rehearsed. It comes from the same place as the food on your plate and the stories your guide tells on the trail, lived experience, local knowledge, and a genuine desire to make you feel at home.

03

Quiet Luxury

Luxury at Parvata is not about excess, it is about the right things done exceptionally well. A bed that lets you sleep deeply. A window that gives you the mountain. A breakfast that tastes like it was made by someone who cares. Nothing more, nothing less.

04

For Everyone

Luxury at Parvata is not about excess, it is about the right things done exceptionally well. A bed that lets you sleep deeply. A window that gives you the mountain. A breakfast that tastes like it was made by someone who cares. Nothing more, nothing less.

05

Rooted in Place

Inchathotty is not just our address, it is our identity. We source locally, hire locally, and tell the story of this land at every opportunity. When you stay here, you are not just visiting a resort; you are visiting a community.

06

Every Visit, New

The forest changes with every season, every rainfall, every hour of light. We promise that no two stays at Parvata will ever be quite the same, and that is not a flaw. That is the whole point.

Our Commitment

The Parvata Promise

Eco-Conscious by Design

Parvata Retreat was built with minimal disruption to the surrounding ecosystem. We use energy-efficient systems, manage waste responsibly, and choose materials that blend into, rather than overwrite, the natural landscape. Our goal is to leave this forest better than we found it

Community at the Core

Our staff are our neighbours. Our ingredients come from local farmers. The stories our guides tell are their own. By choosing Parvata, you are directly supporting the families and communities of Inchathotty, and helping ensure this place remains worth visiting for generations to come.

Safety Without Compromise

From CCTV in all common areas to power backup across the property, from multilingual staff to guided experiences led by trained locals, your safety and comfort are never left to chance. We think of everything so you don’t have to.

Always Here for You

Hot water at 3am. A question answered at midnight. An extra blanket when the mist rolls in. The team at Parvata operates around the clock because nature doesn’t keep office hours, and neither do we.

Plan Your Visit

Inchathotty Through the Seasons

Monsoon
June – September

The hills transform. Waterfalls appear overnight on slopes that were dry a week ago. The forest turns a deep, saturated green. Mist fills the valleys each morning and clings to the peaks all day. For those who love rain, this is the season.

Post-Monsoon
October – November

The rains ease, the skies clear, and the landscape is at its most lush and alive. Waterfalls still flow strong, trails are passable, and the air carries that particular freshness that only comes after months of rain.

Winter
December – February

Cool mornings, crystal-clear skies, and long, golden afternoons. Winter is the peak trekking season, trails are dry, visibility is excellent, and the Western Ghats silhouette against the blue sky like a painting. The most popular time to visit

Summer
March – May

Warmer and quieter, ideal for those who prefer fewer crowds. The forest is still beautiful, the rivers still flow, and you’ll often have the trails and waterfalls nearly to yourself. A hidden gem for the off-season traveller.

Common Questions

Quick Answers Before You Book

A stay at Parvata Retreat is not an itinerary, it is a rhythm. You wake up when the light changes, not when an alarm tells you to. Breakfast appears when you’re ready for it. The forest is always there, just beyond the door, waiting patiently.

Some guests fill every hour: trekking at dawn, kayaking by mid-morning, a waterfall visit in the afternoon, a bonfire under the stars at night. Others do very little at all, and leave feeling like they’ve done everything that mattered.

Both ways are right. That is what Parvata is for.
